A spokesman for the United Nations has said this. The secretary-general condemns the loss of civilian lives, including children and women, which he considers unacceptable and must be stopped immediately, Xinhua news agency quoted Guterres’ deputy spokesman Farhan Haq as saying in a statement. He said Israel must comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law. The spokesman said the UN chief also condemned the indiscriminate launching of rockets from Gaza into Israel. The secretary-general urged all relevant parties to exercise maximum restraint and work for an immediate cessation of hostilities, Haq said.
