Europe News Desk!!! The South Korean government’s YouTube channel was hacked on Saturday apparently to broadcast a cryptocurrency-related video featuring Tesla CEO Elon Musk, but has been restored, according to sources. At 3.30 pm, the government’s official channel on the video-sharing platform was hacked and renamed ‘SpaceX Invest’. A live broadcast on the cryptocurrency was featured, which included an interview with Musk, the American billionaire and founder of SpaceX. An official from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, who manages the YouTube account, said they became aware of the situation at 6 am. After this security measures were taken and the account was restored at 7:20 am.
The account ID and password are suspected to have been stolen, the official said. YouTube’s parent company Google has confirmed that the channel was hacked, Yonhap news agency reported. A Google Korea official said it is currently investigating the cause of the incident. The attack comes after a YouTube channel operated by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) under the Ministry of Tourism was hacked earlier this week. According to KTO, the channel with approximately 509,000 subscribers was initially targeted on Thursday and again the next day. The channel is currently unavailable. A KTO official said that Google will automatically block access to the account if unusual connections are found.
