Europe News Desk!! Ukraine held a memorial ceremony at the site of the disaster on the 37th anniversary of the 1986 accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. During Wednesday’s ceremony, Ukrainian Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilyets, together with employees of the Exclusion Zone, paid tribute to those involved in cleaning up the plant after the disaster. Participants in the ceremony also laid flowers at the memorials of those killed in the accident, Xinhua news agency reported. Following the ceremony, media representatives visited the New Safe Confinement (NSE) atop the destroyed reactor, which was commissioned in July 2019. The journalists visited the control room and monitoring systems of the NSC. According to monitoring systems, radiation levels in the area are within safe limits. It is noteworthy that on April 26, 1986, there was an explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, about 110 km north of Kiev. This had spread radiation to Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and other European countries. After this people were removed from the radius of 30 kilometers around the plant. In February 2022, the Russian military occupied the Chernobyl plant and maintained control over it for five weeks.
