A suspect in the mass shooting murder of 10 members of a family in South Africa’s coastal KwaZulu-Natal province has been shot dead and two people have been arrested, police said on Saturday. Some gunmen stormed a house in Imbali township of the province’s Pietermaritzburg on Friday morning and shot dead seven women and three men of the family, Xinhua news agency reported. The police arrived after being informed and initiated action, which resulted in the arrest.
Less than two kilometers from the spot, the firing started again where the police confronted four people, police said. Police arrested two of the four suspects. One accused fled, while one accused was shot dead. According to the police, a 13-year-old boy is among the 10 killed. KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube on Friday expressed outrage about the incident and called for swift action and arrest of the suspects. Dube-Ncube said the KwaZulu-Natal province would contribute at least 10 million rand (about US$552,000) to the fight against crime, following a spate of violent crimes including multiple murders and gender-based violence.
