Brazil News Desk!! Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva left for his visit to Beijing on Wednesday. He is due to meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and their discussions are expected to focus largely on trade as well as the war in Ukraine. This information has been given in media reports. The 77-year-old Lula was originally planning to travel to China last month, but the trip was canceled after Lula was hospitalized with pneumonia, reports CNN. On Monday, his office confirmed that the trip had resumed, aiming to restart its ties with the country that has been its main trading partner since 2009. The Brazilian delegation accompanying Lula includes businessmen, state governors and ministers, which is expected to sign more than 20 bilateral agreements with China on agriculture, livestock, technology and tourism.

Government statistics show that China imported more than $89.7 billion from Brazil last year and exported about $60.7 billion to Brazil. According to the Presidency of Brazil, trade between the two countries has increased 21-fold since Lula’s first visit to China in 2004. Lula has previously served twice as President of Brazil, and has already made two official visits to China. While in China, Lula will also attend the inauguration of former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff in Shanghai as head of the BRICS New Development Bank. BRICS is a commercial bloc of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Following his visit to China, Lula is also scheduled to visit the United Arab Emirates for a state visit.
