Saudi Arabia's team reached Iran to discuss the reopening of the embassy

Europe News Desk!! A technical delegation from Saudi Arabia has reached Iran to assess the situation and discuss the procedures for reopening the Saudi Embassy and Consulate General in the country. Citing the Saudi Press Agency, the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) said the visit follows agreements between the two countries to normalize bilateral relations in Beijing, Xinhua news agency reported. It added that during the trip, the Saudi delegation would visit Tehran, discuss mechanisms for reopening the country’s embassy here and evaluate the situation for the reopening of the Saudi consulate in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad. Following their arrival, the team members met Mehdi Honardost, Director General of Ceremonies at the Iranian Foreign Ministry in Tehran, and thanked ministry officials for their warm welcome and facilitating the delegation’s visit.

An agreement reached on March 10 between China, Saudi Arabia and Iran calls for the resumption of diplomatic relations and the reopening of embassies and missions within two months. At a meeting in Beijing on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdullahian and his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud signed a joint statement announcing the resumption of diplomatic ties with immediate effect. Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic ties with Iran in 2016 in response to attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran after a Shia cleric was killed in Iran.
