Europe News Desk!! Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has removed Defense Minister Yoav Galant. Gallant sought to block the controversial judiciary plan. Netanyahu’s office issued a brief statement late on Sunday saying he had decided to remove Gallant from his post without giving any reason, Xinhua news agency reported. The move is largely being seen as an indication that the prime minister’s coalition will continue to push through key reform bills that are expected to be tabled in Parliament later this week. Gallant responded in a tweet that protecting Israel will always be my life’s mission. Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s Minister of National Security and a staunch supporter of reforms, welcomed Gallant’s dismissal. Yair Lapid, leader of the opposition and centrist Yesh Atid party, criticized Netanyahu for removing Galant and warned that changes to the justice system were a threat to Israel’s security. In a televised speech on Saturday, Gallant called for talks with opposition parties and a suspension of government efforts to push the plan forward. Galant, the leader of Tanyahu’s Likud party, said the judicial reform plan has created an upheaval in Israeli society and the military that threatens national security. Gallant was followed by two other Likud MPs and a minister in calling for the controversial plan to be halted.
