Europe News Desk!! The World Athletics Council has lifted a seven-year suspension on Russia over doping violations but will keep sanctions on Russia and Belarus over the Ukraine war. As a result, athletes, officials and support staff from Russia and Belarus will still be out of competition due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The decision was taken at the meeting of the World Athletics Council held in Monaco on Thursday. The Council approved the recommendations of the Task Force on Russia to restore the Russian Federation, which has been under suspension for seven years, after meeting all the requirements of the restoration plan. This plan has been confirmed by independent audit. However, the Russian Federation must meet 35 specific conditions to ensure that the Russian Federation’s anti-doping reforms are in place and will continue to be effective. These special conditions will remain in force for a period of three years and after the expiry of this period there will be a review whether it is necessary to continue these conditions or not.
