Israel has waged a shadow war in Syria in past years, carrying out several airstrikes on Iranian targets or arms convoys belonging to the Iran-backed Hezbollah group, Xinhua news agency reported. Earlier on Wednesday, Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system intercepted a drone belonging to Hamas, a Palestinian faction that rules the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army said it was shot down in Gaza airspace.
