The Board of Governors of the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reappointed Raffaele Grossi as the director-general of the nuclear watchdog for a second four-year term. The IAEA said in a statement that its 35-nation board made the decision at its quarterly meeting on Friday, Xinhua news agency reported. The reappointment is subject to approval by the annual general conference of all 176 member states of the agency in September. Grossi is set to begin his second term in early December this year. I am deeply honored by the Board’s unanimous decision to appoint me for another term, Grossi said. I am very grateful for the trust that has been reposed in me as the head of this remarkable organization. This comes at a time when we face many great challenges, and I am fully committed to continuing to do everything in our power to implement the IAEA’s important mission in support of global peace and development. Am. Grossi has served as the head of the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog since December 2019.
