Europe News Desk!!! Three Islamic State (IS) militants were killed in an airstrike in Salahuddin province, north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, while a security guard was also killed. Troops from the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service were dispatched early on Wednesday to search IS positions where Iraqi F-16 fighter jets bombed the Balkana Mountains in the province’s northeast a day earlier, Xinhua news agency reported. It was A statement issued by the Security Media Cell, a media outlet affiliated with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, said troops found three bodies of IS militants, weapons and other equipment from the bombed sites. In a separate incident on Wednesday, a security guard was killed and another wounded when IS militants attacked a security checkpoint near the town of Tuj Khormatu in the eastern part of Salahuddin province. Over the past months, Iraqi security forces have launched a campaign to crack down on extremist militants. The security situation in Iraq has been improving since the defeat of IS in 2017.
