Speaking to MBA students at Cambridge Judge Business School on Learning to Listen in the 21st Century, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi said people around the world need to find a way to listen. He said, the art of listening when done consistently and with passion is very powerful. He said manufacturing has declined in recent decades in democracies, including India and the US, as production shifted to China, which has created massive inequality and discontent, which requires urgent attention and dialogue. . We cannot afford a planet that does not create democratic systems, he told the MBA students. So we need new thinking about how do you produce in a democratic environment as compared to an oppressive environment.

Kamal Munir, Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the university and Professor of Strategy and Policy at Cambridge Judge Business School, introduced Rahul to the MBA students. Gandhi’s speech was divided into three parts, starting with an outline of the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The second part of the lecture focused on the two different perspectives of the US and China since World War II and especially after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. The final aspect of his lecture revolved around the theme of imperatives for a global conversation. He said Yatra is a journey or pilgrimage, in which people keep themselves silent to listen to others.
