The WMO said in a statement released last Wednesday that according to a new weather forecast, below-normal rainfall is expected over most parts of the region over the next three months. If this happens, it would be an unprecedented sixth bad season for the worst-affected countries, Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. The WMO said the current drought began with the poor performance of October-December 2020 rainfall and has deepened with the poor performance of all four subsequent seasons.
