Cambodian girl dies from H5N1 bird flu!

Europe News Desk!!! An 11-year-old girl from Prey Veng province in southeast Cambodia died of H5N1 human avian influenza. The Communicable Disease Control Department of the Ministry of Health gave this information. The girl fell ill on February 16 with symptoms of high temperature of 39 degrees Celsius, cough and sore throat, the department said in a statement on Wednesday. She first sought local healthcare, but her condition worsened, becoming increasingly short of breath, so she was transferred to the National Pediatric Hospital in Phnom Penh. On February 21, the doctor took her samples for diagnosis at the National Institute of Public Health and on February 22 the results came, which confirmed that she was positive for H5N1 bird flu, before the girl died, the statement said.

The statement called on people not to touch sick or dead poultry and to consult doctors or call a hotline at 115 if they suspect they have been infected with the virus, Xinhua news agency reported. H5N1 influenza is a flu that is usually spread among sick poultry, but it can occasionally spread from poultry to humans, according to the WHO. The WHO stated that from 2003 to 2014, there were 56 cases of infected humans in Cambodia and 37 deaths. However, between 2015 and 2022, no human in the country was infected with this virus.
