Europe News Desk!! Indian Naval Ship INS Sumedha has reached Abu Dhabi, UAE to participate in NAVDEX 23 (Naval Defense Exhibition) and IDEX 23 (International Defense Exhibition). This International Defense Exhibition is being organized from 20 to 24 February 2023. The warship participation and defense exhibitions by both the navies here will showcase the strength of India’s indigenous shipbuilding and underline the Prime Minister’s vision of a self-reliant India. INS Sumedha is the third ship of the indigenously built Saryu class Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel (NOPV) and was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 7 March 2014. INS Sumedha, indigenously built at Goa Shipyard Limited, is fitted with weapons and sensors. It can carry a helicopter and can be operational for a long time.
INS Sumedha is a highly potent warship, which can be deployed for various operational missions. Its excellent capability reflects the capabilities of the Indian naval shipbuilding industry. Mutual participation in an important event hosted by UAE also highlights the close strategic and cultural ties between India and UAE. According to the Defense Ministry, during the visit of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and current President of the United Arab Emirates, as the chief guest on the occasion of the Republic Day celebrations in January 2017, the defense ties between the two countries were given a comprehensive strategic focus. was raised to the level of partnership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the UAE for the fourth time in June 2022 to take the relationship to an even higher level.
The inaugural edition of the bilateral Exercise Zayed Talwar between the Indian Navy and the UAE Navy was conducted in March 2018, with the previous edition being conducted in August 2021, with an aim to enhance interoperability between the two navies. In a bid to boost maritime cooperation, Indian Navy ships have made regular port calls in the UAE. The deployment of INS Sumedha to Abu Dhabi is a step in that direction.
